WHAT WILL TORONTO BRIDES BE WEARING THIS SPRING?

Brides have a fabulous selection of bridal gowns and dresses this spring. Gone are the big, pouffy styles. They have been replaced by Grecian-inspired gowns – elegant and flowing. Vintage is very hot right now, particularly flapper-inspired minis or knee length dresses, halter necklines, flowing layers, cap sleeves, strapless gowns, plunging necklines, antique lace, and satin ribbons for straps. Colour choices are sensational – gold, taupe, red, off white, ivory, pink, blue, silver, black, and violet.

Flower embroidery is one of the hottest trends in embellishments. It is done in a colour that dramatically contrasts the colour of the wedding dress. Floral appliqués, silver or gold trim, brocade accents, and shiny beads add that touch of vintage glamour to any bridal gown. Silk, satin, charmeuse, and lace are the fabrics of choice this spring. Ruffles are out. Big, beautiful bows are in. They add plenty of visual interest and can draw attention away from an area that may be a source of concern for you. Bows also add a very feminine and romantic touch to any look, particularly one that is very fitted and has little embellishment.

Think glamour this spring. Bling is the word for accessories – diamond or rhinestones. Dangling earrings are in. So are dramatic bracelets, large chokers, and necklaces with a long drop in the back (a la Nicole Kidman in the Chanel ad). Bridal shoes no longer have to be dyed to match your dress. Think cocktail, not bridal. The traditional bridal shoe is out. Fantastic cocktail shoes are in featuring beautiful color, textures, bows, beads, crystals, patent leather, shiny metallics, and vegetarian-friendly materials. Heels can be sky-scraper high or flat. The choice is yours. Spring 2009 is fantastic for bridal fashion. What will you be wearing?
