Summer wedding dresses are taking their cue from the easy, breezy season and are much more casual and less structured than in any other season. These are the styles that summer brides are choosing.

Short dresses: If there is one trend considered to be the most dominant it is the short dress. Brides are taking advantage of this easy to wear style and easy to pack if you’ve chosen a destination wedding. Even brides that are getting married in full length formal wedding gowns are changing into short dresses for the reception so that they can dance the night away. Hemlines run the gamut from knee length to micro-minis and styles range from shift dresses to strapless, fitted creations. Go for it ladies and show some leg.

Pockets: Pockets are a practical trend that can be incorporated into gowns and dresses. Stash your lipstick and ditch the purse.

Colourful accessories: Add a pop of colour to any wedding ensemble with a colourful sash or appliqué. Or forgo the pearls in favour of a dramatic piece of jewelry or hair accessory.

Tiered skirts: Chiffon, tulle, organza, or feathered layered skirts are featured on short or long dresses. It’s a romantic look but can add some bulk to your lower body. It’s a style that works best on someone who is long and lean.

Light weight fabrics: Silk, raw silk, linen, lace, chiffon, tulle, organza, and taffeta are light weight, gorgeous and easy to wear.
