Love in the Time of Covid

Officiant Paula da Nova

During this difficult time, so many of us have been forced to make big sacrifices during the Covid 19 lockdown. Among those are couples that were looking forward to getting married. So much goes into planning a wedding, so much time, money and emotion. As a wedding officiant, I have spent the past couple of months on the phone with my couples as they cry and panic over the dream of their big day being crushed. This is understandable and has been heartbreaking to say the least. But in the midst of this chaos, there are some that are looking at how to turn this misfortune into a positive event.

These past couple of weeks I have had the delight of talking to a few couples that want to make their wedding dream come true, despite the restrictions. Couples have chosen to opt for a super micro wedding. A wedding that incorporates only 5 people, the officiant, the witnesses and, of course, the couple. They have been saying that getting married during this pandemic will allow them to create a beautiful memory in an otherwise difficult period in life. Getting married will give them something joyful to look forward to, keeping their spirits up and fulfilling the dream of marrying the love of their life. Sure, there will be no frills, pomp and circumstance but there will be two people that will be together and no obstacle or pandemic will stand in their way. This really is a wonderful way to make the best out of a bad situation.
