When the world heard that Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan had married everyone wondered what kind of opulent affair the billionaire had put on. The reality is that the wedding could best be described as modest and with a modest budget you too can have a billionaire-style wedding.
The Ring: The papers are full of photos of big time diamond sparklers worn by the rich and famous, and one would expect that the wife of one of the world’s richest men would follow suit. The talk is that Mark Zuckerberg designed the ring, but it sure isn’t a big time diamond sparkler; in fact it isn’t a diamond, but a ruby.
Coloured gemstone engagement and wedding rings is a trend that was revitalized by Kate Middleton’s iconic sapphire ring that once belonged to Princess Diana. Other celebrities have also embraced the trend, notably Elizabeth Hurley, also wearing a sapphire ring and Jessica Simpson’s ruby stunner.
The Dress: Priscilla Chan didn’t get married in a priceless, one of a kind designer original. Instead she wore a dress called “Sky Between the Branches” from Claire Pettibone’s 2010 collection which she purchased in a bridal shop for $4,700.
Priscilla Chan wore the long silk gown featuring a sheer back, matte sequins and ivory cut-out embroidery with a chapel length train and white high heeled sandals. Claire Pettibone’s bridal gowns can be found in the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia or on her website. You too can purchase this gown or wait a week and the knock-offs will no doubt be available in your local bridal shop for a few hundred dollars.
The Reception: The wedding took placed at home and there were approximately 100 friends and family members in attendance. The décor was simple with lots of candles and very few flowers. Guests ate family style from the couple’s favorite local eateries.
